Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Azalea Park Baptist School! Also, welcome to all you new parents. We’re starting a new school year with many old faces and new faces. It’s very exciting! The Parent-Teacher-Church-Student Association (PTCSA) is an organization like other PTAs and PTOs around the country except that we add church and students to the mix. Everyone is important to the function of the PTCSA, including you. Do you know that there are major benefits to getting involved where your children attend! The PTOtoday reports, for instance, that children are more likely to:

  • Earn better grades
  • Score higher on tests
  • Pass their classes
  • Have better social skills
  • Show improved behavior
  • Complete homework assignments

When parents get involved early in their children’s education, the results are more pronounced and long-lasting. One two-year study of home and school influences on literacy achievement among children found that the single variable most positively connected to all literacy skills was involvement in parent-school activities such as PTA participation, attending school activities, and serving as a volunteer.

Why should parents get involved? Because involvement can make a dramatic difference for their children. Why should school administrators encourage involvement? Because it can make a significant difference, both in school atmosphere and in the success rate of students--especially when parents are included as partners in the educational process. Parental involvement is a powerful tool!

Our first PTCSA meeting will take place on TBD (First meetings usually go just a little longer but a majority of the meetings last only 1 hour.). A lot of information will be given out and you will meet other parents and teachers. Becoming a member of the PTCSA for only $5.00 allows the PTCSA the ability to offer snacks at the meetings. Who doesn’t like to munch?! The PTCSA does not have a budget from the school so it is self-standing. You can bring the membership form to that first meeting. I look forward to meeting you on that day. If you have any questions, email me at ptakaren@bellsouth.net or my phone number is 407-273-9803. Let’s have a great first meeting with you there!

In Christ’s Name,

Karen Yawt
